Time for a rant...

...on the radio. Not literally on the radio but rather about the radio and its dire state in modern society, or at least so it seems through my eyes...and/or ears.

Primarily for me, radio should be about music, as it is a purely aural form of communicative media and as music is the most obvious and natural source of pleasing sounds, it should be the dominant focus on the radio. Sure, talk radio is good for what it is, but give me music over debate anyday, good music mind.

My problem is that even the stations that claim to 'play all the hottest new music' and apparently get all the exclusives before anyone else, actually spend very little airtime playing music, and the songs they do play don't really vary much from day to day, so its almost like bloody groundhog day.

Radio 1 for example, supposedly the premier station in the country, with the most listeners spend far too much time on pointless banter, which often relates to what was on the telly the previous night! How ludicrous is it to spend radio time talking about television! Thats a waste, if you must talk then talk about something worthwhile/informative/inspirational, I don't really want to hear about the latest controversy spewing out of the psychologically unbalanced airheards pratting around in the big brother house.

I suppose what I'm trying to say is that given the choice, I'd prefer to have my radio filled with quality music that I like rather than the shite churned out on commercial radio sandwiched by numskull presenters and their endless sarcasm and prank phonecalls, etc. Plus, if there's something that gets me riled up more than anything in the whole world, its the fuckin adverts! I cannot stand them, they drive me crazy, infact advertising in general pisses me off enough to make me want to drive a screwdriver into my hand and then pour loads of chilli powder into the fresh wound before shoving my whole arm into a boiling vat of tar, metaphorically speaking of course.

The internet is the saviour of the mindless drone of force-fed radio, with its countless online stations and the opportunities to personalise one's listening experience expanding by the day, the power is truly being placed in the hands of the people, and until radio radically improves or I can receive the aforementioned customisable stations in my car, I'm gonna stick to my cd's and mp3's!
