Details of a dream....

The other night I had one of the most vivid dreams I've ever had, which is quite strange as I rarely have clear dreams and I'm very rarely able to recall them so I thought I had better keep a record of it before I forget.

I'm in Sri Lanka. I'm near the ocean and I'm at the house of my Aunt's. Outside on a hill there is a large gathering of people that I don't know, but they are not strangers. We are all gathered to watch a forthcoming eclipse. I watch the sun rise, there is someone beside me as I watch it. The sun is beautiful as it rises above the shimmering ocean in front of me. Then, when the eclipse is expected the sun sets and rises again very rapidly, and repeats this process several times, as this happens, day becomes night and vice versa in natural accordance with the sun's movements. This is very strange, what is happening I ask my dad; we all kind of shrug with indifference. I notice that the ocean level has risen to being ankledeep and the house is somewhat flooded, at the same time I notice a small animal, a cat walking past, it is very placid but as I bend to stroke it I can see that the other half of the cat is an elephant. This partial metamorphosis is unpleasant to look at. I look at the ocean and it is distinctly angrier than before. Large waves come crashing down in front of us, each one getting bigger, and simultaneously soaking the crowd while drawing noises of wonderment from them, as if they were at a sea-world show. Then, all of a sudden the ocean completely retreats leaving miles of deserted beach. At this moment, the word tsunami is like an unspoken realisation and everyone begins to flee. As I leave, at a brisk but unhurried walking pace, I take a bandanna from a stall, to protect myself, and I follow my brother and sister-in-law away, with a vague sense of devastation behind me.

Go on Freud, have a go at that.
